What is Natural Orifice Surgery?
Natural orifice surgery is a technique where different types of surgery are accomplished without using ANY incisions on the belly. These procedures usually involve instruments that are passed via the mouth into to stomach. Because there are no incisions the procedures are less traumatic and have a quick recovery. This is a new and emerging field. Presently Dr. Fusco offers the esophyx procedure, which is an endoscopic procedure to treat acid reflux.

When Can I Return to Work?
Because there is less trauma to the abdominal wall, there is considerably less discomfort and less chance that activity such as lifting will cause damage. General guidelines suggest that you may return to work when you can comfortably perform your required activities. In most cases, this takes 2 or 3 days depending upon the type of work you do. This should be discussed with Dr. Fusco and will be modified by your general baseline health and nature of your surgical problem.

Will My Health Insurance Cover Natural Orifice Surgery?
As this is a new procedure insurance questions should be directed to you insurance carrier. For patients who do not have insurance coverage for this innovative procedure, self funding options can be arranged. Any questions regarding health insurance coverage of specific procedures can be addressed to our office at 321-725-4500 ext7420 or by E-mail.
