BIBĀ® System (Bioenteric Intragastric Balloon)
Please Note: The BIB System is an investigational devise and is NOT at this time FDA approved. This web page is strictly for informational purposes. Dr. Fusco does not yet offer this devise outside of approved research protocols. As part of the US BIB FDA trial, Dr. Fusco is trained in BIB removal. Dr. Fusco is able to offer BIB removal for patients who may have had their BIBs placed overseas. Contact our offices to inquire about BIB removal.
How does the BIB work?
The BIB is a balloon that is placed in the stomach. It occupies space in the stomach to give patients a feeling of fullness and to help control their hunger. The BIB is placed endoscopically, using a scope through the mouth. Therefore no surgery or incisions are required to place the device making the procedure safer than traditional weight loss surgery. The device is placed using a light anesthetic called conscious sedation, and patients generally have no awareness of the procedure. The hunger control that the BIB device provides allows patients to more easily follow a proscribed diet and exercise plan. The device is removed, again endoscopically, after six months.
