  • Dr Fusco recently presented his experience with Orbera system (BIB) intragastric balloon removal. The presentation was in Washington DC before the Society of American GastroEndoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) annual scientific symposium.   • Dr Fusco is no longer able to offer the ROSE procedure to help patients who are struggling with weight regain after RNY gastric bypass.

  • BIB study set to begin- "A Study of BioEnterics® Intragastric Balloon (BIB®) System to Assist in the Weight Management of Obese Subjects" - A patient information seminar will be held on October 7th so potential study subjects can learn about this FDA study. Follow this link to see Inclusion/Exclusion criteria for the study.

  • Dr. Fusco presented original research at the 11th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery in Yokohama Japan. The conference, held in September, is an international meeting of advanced laparoscopic surgeons. Dr. Fusco presented a paper entitled: A NEW TECHNIQUE FOR PLACEMENT OF THE LAP-BAND AP SYSTEM.
  • Research project done by Dr. Fusco evaluates recovery after the HALO procedure. The HALO procedure is an endoscopic procedure to treat Barrett's Esophagus. The study was presented at the 2008 Scientific Session of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) in Philadelphia, and is published in the Journal Surgical Endoscopy
  • Dr. Fusco has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine
  • Dr. Fusco is now offering the following new procedures for his patients:
    -SILS gallbladder removal - gallbladder surgery with less scars and a better cosmetic result.
    - Esophyx procedure - A procedure to treat acid reflux (GERD) that involves NO INCISIONS on the belly.
  • For the 5th year in a row, Dr. Fusco listed among "America's Top Surgeons"
    by The Consumers' Research Council of America

  • Study done by Dr. Fusco and LifeShape Advanced Bariatrics Center of Florida confirms the safety of outpatient LAP-BAND® Surgery. The study, published in the journal Surgery for Obesity and Related Disorders, and presented at the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, examines the outcome of LifeShape's first 100 patients.
  • Study done by Dr. Fusco and LifeShape Advanced Bariatrics Center of Florida confirms the safety of outpatient LAP-BAND® Surgery in patients undergoing reoperative surgery. The study was presented at the 2007 Scientific Session of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) in Las Vegas Nevada, and is published in the Journal Surgical Endoscopy.

  • Dr. Fusco is proud to announce that he now offers the Halo 360 ablation procedure for Barrett's Esophagus by Barrx Medical.
  • Dr. Fusco named to the Allergan Clinical Advisory Board. This select group of LAP-BAND® surgeons helps advise the company that manufactures the band in order to continue to improve the science of banding.

Research
Dr. Fusco offers his patients inclusion in a variety of clinical research studies. If you fit the entry criteria for the study, Dr. Fusco will discuss the study with you and provide you information about the protocol.

All studies are completely optional and patients should feel no pressure to participate if they are not interested.

Studies that presently active include:

  • BIB Study : This study evaluates the success of an endoscopically placed intragastric balloon to help patients lose weight.
  • APEX trial: testing the newest generation of the LAP-BAND®.
  • Halo Registry: collecting data on the Halo procedure to treat Barrett's esophagus.
  • Hero trial: testing long term (5 year) health outcomes in patients undergoing Laparoscopic Adjutable Gastric Banding using the Allergan AP system .
