Please Note:

Curon Medical, the maker of the Stretta device, as gone out of business. The Stretta procedure is therefore at this point not available. If a new company begins manufacturing the Stretta device, we will again be able to offered it to our patients.

The Stretta® procedure is an endoscopic procedure to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

The procedure involves the placement of a specially designed catheter through the mouth into the esophagus to to the area of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). Radiofrequency waves are then used to heat the tissues of the LES. This results in both shrinking of the tissues in the area and disrupting of the nerves which cause the LES to relax at the wrong time.

The Stretta® procedure is done using sedation or a light general anesthesia.

The procedure is done as an outpatient.

Studies have shown that the majority of patients have significant improvement in their GERD.

Over 60 percent of patients no longer require anti-secretory medications.

Having a Stretta® procedure does not preclude the patient from undergoing laparocopic nissen fundoplication if reflux control after Stetta® is not adequate.
